Mick's 78

Pondering on what I was going to get my husband Mick for his 78th Birthday, at first I bought him a non-surprise, a new lawn mower which he wanted, then I got to thinking.... we laughed at 77 Sunset Strip the previous year, so he is 78 on 24/2/22. What about a 78 disc.... the number 1 when he was born? There were two records that just crossed paths for the number 1 spot on his Birthday, one I was not familiar with, ''My heart tells me' by Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra and 'Paper Doll' by the Mills Brothers. I went onto eBay and found both the 78s, and bought them. Then I was even more inspired.... why not record the Number 1 songs on his Birthday from various years? I found some were instrumentals in the early years and some I really did not know, and as I only had two weeks to get this done I could not have managed to learn new songs in the time available. After researching the Number 1s, I came up with fiffteen songs for a CD starting with 'Paper Doll', although I did a cover of the version by Don Estelle and Windsor Davies, which I knew very well. I could have made a longer list, but time was against me, so I settled up until 1974. Oh boy! What fun I had rcording some of the tracks! Luckily, some Number 1s I had already recorded, so that made the job a little easier, but many were new recordings. Mick always used to mention 'The story of my life' by Michael Holliday so that was a poignant one to record. I was slightly disappointed that 'Devil Gate Drive' knocked 'Tiger Feet' off the Number 1 spot just before his Birthday in 1974, but I really enjoyed recording that, despite my disappointment of my beloved 'Tiger feet'! 'Memories are made of this' originally by Dean Martin and 'Young love' originally done by Tab Hunter were also a joy to record. Hope you enjoy these and the rest of the tracks, and it really is a trip down memory lane for Mick. (By the way he was overwhelmed when he received the 78s and the CD or recorded songs - so well worth the efforts!)

To play the tracks, use the links to the tracks at the bottom of the page also, so you can just click the track names one by one to listen to the songs. I had given up on the widgets but the kind lady Alexandra at Elfsight allowed me to have some more widgets for free so the result is the fabulous jukebox below. They were also brilliant with their customer service, thank you very much. I would also like to thank the brilliant Leo from Muga Beats whose website I stumbled upon, which helped me create the accompaniment to some of the songs. A great service and wonderful customer service. Thank you.
